Sherril Boyett – Athlete (Class of 1963)

Sherril Boyett was a three-sport star in Basketball, Football and Track. He competed on the Varsity Basketball team during his Sophomore through Senior years, leading the Tigers in scoring during his Junior and Senior years. He also played Varsity Football those same three years, earning MVP honors his Junior and Senior years. Both those teams placed second in the South Sequoia League. His greatest acclaim came from his Varsity Track accomplishments. As a sophomore In 1961, he was South Sequoia League Champion in the 120 High Hurdles at 15.4 and the 440 at 52.9. During the next two years, he went on to set a school record in the 180 Low Hurdles at 19.3 and a Delano of Champions Meet record of 57.0 in the 440 Low Hurdles. He competed on 440 and 880 relay teams that captured 1st place  at the Kern Relays along with an individual 1st place in the 120 High Hurdles at 14.5. His senior year he earned the right to compete in the prestigious West Coast Relays along with competing in the California State Track Meet in both the 180 Low  Hurdles and the 120 High Hurdles. These accomplishments led to being named an All American in Track and Field News magazine. The 1963 list of Central Section All-Time Performances listed Sheril as the 3rd fastest all-time in the 180 Low Hurdles at 18.7 and 4th fastest in the 120 High Hurdles at 14.2. These were comparable to USA Olympic team times.

Beth Holtermann – Athlete (Class of 2003)

Beth Holtermann was a three-sport athlete at Wasco High. She played Basketball and Volleyball and was a Golf superstar. Her accomplishments include: Back‐to‐back SSL Champion in 2001 and 2002, 2003 Individual Central Section Champion, beating out 65 others, four‐time California State Qualifier and four‐time Central Section Qualifier. The only girl to ever compete on the boy's team she also earned All‐CIF Central Section as a Sophomore, 2002 All‐Area Co‐Player of the Year and was selected to the 1st Team All‐Area twice. Beth is the girl's school record holder for 9 holes (38) and 18 holes (73). The score of 38 was shot from the men's  tees at River Lakes Golf Course. Her high school stroke average was 51.2 (Men’s Tees). She was a National Junior World Tournament Qualifier in 2000 and 2001 and two-time All Big West Selection.  Beth played golf at Long Beach State, signed to a full scholarship. She earned a Bachelors of Science in Business Management and Masters in Sports Management from Long Beach State. She worked for The Big West Conference for 12 years until her passing in 2019.

Mike Johnson– Athlete (Class of 1973)

Mike Johnson was a two-sport athlete at Wasco High, playing football and wrestling. He truly excelled on the mat, earning a Varsity spot all four years and a South Sequoia League Championship. After graduating from Wasco High in 1973, he wrestled and played football for one year at  Bakersfield College before transferring to California State University, Bakersfield where he competed in  wrestling for three years. While at CSUB, Mike earned All American status in 1978, advanced to the NCAA Division I meet his senior year and was named an NCAA All American. Mike was seeded #1 at the 1980 United States Olympic Trials and earned an alternate selection in Greco Roman wrestling for the 198-lb weight class. However the United States boycotted the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow. Mike went on to help coach wrestling at West High School in Bakersfield before moving to Taft. In 1994 he began a ministry, eventually establishing his own church. Mike passed away in 2014, and is survived by his wife Kathy, daughter Aaliyah and her husband Fidel, brother Nate Johnson, sister Patricia Shiloh and their families.

Sean Medley – Athlete (Class of 2013)

Sean Medley wrestled and played football at Wasco High. He won a Valley Championship in Football, was All-Area wrestler of the year and Wasco High’s first State finalist in wrestling. Sean had a career record of 46-2 on the mat by the end of his senior year. Sean qualified or State in wrestling multiple times, finishing fourth and second. He is a two-time All-American, three-time CIF Champion and Master’s Sectional Champion and four-time SSL Champion. Sean went on to compete at Grand Canyon University on a wrestling scholarship. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education at Grand Canyon University with an emphasis in Physical Education. Sean is being recognized for his individual accomplishments as a champion wrestler and football player and also being inducted with the 2012 Valley Champion Football Team. He resides in Idaho with his wife Heather. 

Rusvel Prado – Coach (2007 - 2016)

Rusvel Prado is a Wasco High legend. He was Tiger's Head Football Coach for nine years. Leading his teams to an undefeated 13-0 Valley Championship in 2012. They also were 2011 Valley Champion Runner Up, 2009 and 2012 South Sequoia Champions. The 2012 All-Area Coach of the Year had a pristine 9-0 Record versus Shafter and 68-34 Record Overall. In 2012, his Tigers were the only undefeated team in the Central Section. In his first year as Head Coach, Prado took on a team that went 3-7 the previous year. He tackled the job with a philosophy of hard work, strong mental toughness and continuous improvement. They steadily improved year over year, earning a playoff game in his third year as coach. Prado-led teams would go on to do this seven of the nine years he coached. Year four resulted in a winning season and Co-SSL Championship. His 2012 Valley Champion team set section records for points scored with 688, and point differential as they only allowed 151. They won every game except the Valley Championship by at least 28 points. Coach Prado became Vice Principal Prado in 2016. He was promoted to Wasco Independence High School Principal and is now in his second year as Wasco Union High School Principal. In his first year as WUHS Principal, Wasco HIgh earned its third Valley Championship in Football, as well as Valley Championships in Cheer and Wrestling. As Prado always says “It’s a Great Day to be a Tiger, Baby!”

Veronica Sanchez Gregory – (Class of 1998)

Veronica Sanchez Gregory was a two-sport athlete at Wasco High in the mid 1990s. She went from being the only girl on the Cross Country team to winning back to back South Sequoia League and Valley Championships in 1996 and 1997. She was a South Sequoia League and Valley Champion as an individual athlete and named All‐Area four consecutive years. She competed at the State all four years, placing 8th her sophomore year. As a Freshman Verónica made the 2nd Team West Region. She was third best  freshman in the State and sixth best in the Country. Verónica still holds Wasco High three-mile course records. She also competed on the track team and won countless races in the 800m, 1600m, 3200m, and as a member of the mile relay team. Veronica achieved South Sequoia League Titles in the 800m,1600m, and 3200m. She was selected to the All‐Area Track Team her Senior year. Veronica’s Lady Tiger track team won the Small Schools Valley Title In 1998. She earned a full ride scholarship to California State University Bakersfield, helping establish the first Women’s Cross‐Country team in 1999. Veronica graduated from CSUB in 2003 with a  Bachelors of Arts in Liberal Studies with a Concentration in Mathematics. She followed up with a Master’s in Education, and an Administrative credential. Verónica returned to her childhood hometown of Lost Hills where she serves as  Principal for both schools at Lost Hills Union School District. She lives in Wasco with her husband Chris Gregory and their three children: Damian, Natalí, and Kylie. 

Kayla Wilburn – (Class of 1990)

Kayla played basketball and volleyball at Wasco High. She was on varsity volleyball all four years and varsity basketball three of the four. For Volleyball, she was named Bakersfield Californian Prep of the Week, Team MVP her junior and senior years and twice earned All-Area Honorable Mention. She was part of Lady Tiger Basketball teams that won SSL twice, Valley once and Southern California Regional Championships. They were second in Valley once and State runner up once. Individually she earned All-SSL honors and was Team Captain. She was truly a scholar athlete, earning a 3.67 GPA and the Bank of America Achievement Award in English.  Kayla was Tiger Rag Editor in Chief and Wasco Tribune Student of the Year. After graduating from Wasco High, she played volleyball at Bakersfield College, starting both years. Kayla earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from California State University Fresno. She has been Clinic Director at Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo County since 2001.

Football Team (2012)

After placing second in Valley in 2011, the 2012 Tiger Football Team were the Undefeated 13-0 Valley Champions. This was an historic season filled with accolades and records including South Sequoia Championship, All-Area Coach of the Year Rusvel Prado and Section records for points scored (688) and point differential, only allowing 151. They were the only undefeated team in the Central Section and won every game except the Valley Championship by at least 28 points. They routed 12 of 13 teams they faced, including Shafter.
